Spent New Year’s out in the High Tatras. On New Year's Eve, I hiked up from a frozen Popradské pleso toward Sedlo pod Ostrvou. The trail sign at the saddle was completely caked in windblown ice, but climbing out of the fog into bright sunshine above a massive cloud inversion made the whole trek worth it.
Started the new year with a hike up to Téryho chata, tucked right into the snowy rock faces, and caught the valley lights glowing in the distance on the descent at dusk. Just quiet, snow-covered mountain trails and crisp winter air to start off January.
